The Duty Manager has delegated authority of the centre manager, and all middle managers, and will act as a positive role model and provide leadership and direction to all staff working throughout the centre. The Duty Manager will manage the day-to-day operation of the centre and ensure the smooth running of the centre, as well as ensuring a clean, safe and welcoming facility. The Duty Manager is required to work throughout all areas of the centre, so a broad and thorough knowledge of all centre programs and services is essential.
A key function of the role will be to manage all direct service staff (customer service, lifeguards, health club instructor, etc.) who are on shift, including coordinating breaks, monitoring shift start and finishing times, managing rosters, and managing staff performance. The Duty Manager will also need to address customer concerns and act accordingly, and appropriately deal with members and patrons who are behaving poorly. The Duty Manager is also responsible for ensuring the pool chemistry and water quality remains within set guidelines, and take corrective action when required. Furthermore, the Duty Manager will also be required to perform some minor maintenance tasks around the centre, both preventative and reactive, as well as playing a role in pool operations.
In the event of an emergency, the Duty Manager will act as the Chief Warden, and ensure that the centre's Emergency Action Plan is followed, and that the centre is evacuated quickly and safely when required. The Duty Manager will also be required to respond to and manage incidents, whether minor, major, or critical.
